This was forwarded to me from my Aunt Jackie Duvall and I think she got it from Sara Legel (just reading the headers). Im sure I dont know who it originated from. I mean I know their name but I dont know them. It sounds like a good cause and good causes are good things so I will pass this along. In fact I think I will add a menu item for Announcements and put it there as the first contribution.
And last but not least the disclaimer: I will not be participating in this event and only assume it is a worthy cause as I have no first hand experience. In other words, Travel at your own risk., as my lovely Mother once said. (Thats another story). Just click on this link and it will take you there. [Link removed after event expired]
We just added Noahs new car to our insurance so I know first hand the exorbitant cost of car insurance. Part of the reason it is so high is because it is mandatory. When you HAVE to buy something it always gives the seller an edge. Sorta like medicine but thats another rant.
I say this because I stumbled on this only in America kind of article in the Peoria Urinal Jar. (And heres a breakdown of how we will share the shakedown) Lets give this some thought. Why would anyone want to go to court and pay higher fees to keep a simple traffic ticket off their driving record? Right in one guess I am sure to keep their car insurance from going up.
So now the government that made the insurance mandatory in the first place is reaching under the table to grab some of that loot too. Am I the only one who sees a pattern here? I know we need to keep people from driving recklessly and I know we need to make sure reckless drivers have the financial ability to recompense their victims should they collide. So how does this article explain the way our government is handling those two issues. To profit by our needs rather than address them I would guess.
Here is yet another example of how life changes with age. I used to think it was totally gruesome that they put pictures of dead people in the newspaper every day. And even worse that people would actually WANT to read about dead people. Even people they dont even know! Now I read the obits almost every day. (Online now rather than on paper) It must be a recognition of our mortality that we cheer those unknown strangers who made it past 90 and pity those who died young.
I even find myself looking for some clue of how or why they died young. Like that really matters since I dont even know them anyway. And the real jolt of our mortality nails us when we recognize someone we know or knew. I didnt get that jolt today but I will look again tomorrow.
