11/30/2006 Jury DutyI am not peeved about the requirement of public service —— but about the administration of who gets selected. Once again I have been tapped by the system to be a juror. This time for the Federal District Court. I am on call for the month of December. So far it looks good as there are no trials scheduled for the first week of December.I don’t mind doing my duty or my fair share. But this is getting a little old. Last year I spent a week on the Coroner’s Jury in Tazewell County. The year before that I was up for Petit Jury but I begged off because I didn’t want to leave the boys home alone for a week that summer. All in all this is my sixth time serving or being asked to serve on one jury or another. I know a lot of people who have never been required to do it even once. I think everyone should serve on a jury at least once. It is an educational experience. I don’t think anyone should be forced to do it a second time until everyone else has done it at least once. So —— don’t commit any federal crimes in the near future because I know of at least one disgruntled juror. |
