Mom called me yesterday morning with a computer scare. Her computer wouldn’t boot up properly, and then gave a keyboard error when I told her to try again. I told her to turn it off and I would be right over.
Of course, when I got there is started right up! I didn’t know whether to be happy about that or not but decided it was better not to have to fix anything. Although I don’t like mysteries like that.
So I went home and tried to take a nap.
I also went shopping for groceries yesterday —— not much else to do with these monsoon rains pouring down.
A & B unloaded the car for me —— they came home from school early and they don’t have school today. Some kind of “Teachers Institute” or some other fancy name for goofing off. I realize the old cliche about walking to school several miles uphill both ways in five feet of snow, etc. is easy to get into —— but I don’t ever remember getting of early from school or several days a year off school altogether so the teachers could have meetings about teaching school. They just taught school.

There isn’t any just teaching school any more.
Ashley has a 4 day weekend. They are doing parent/teacher conferences over here. I went last night. Here’s a new one....her math teacher called it “ACT Highlight of the Week”. Hmmm...do ya think they teach to the tests here?!?!
The math teachers thought they had to come up with something because if the kids don’t use “it”, they loose “it”. Well...I hate to tell them, but 90% of what they teach them will NOT be used in real life and will be lost anyway!
However, maybe Morton’s test scores will be higher and then we can get our name in the PJS and a pat on the back! I’m so excited, I just can’t wait for those tests and those scores! I’d better get down now!
On another note...I think I’ll have a Halloween Pool Party in my basement...anyone want to come?! One of the games we’ll be playing is who can fill and empty their shop vac the fastest! It started at 10:15 last night. So I thought about and dreamt about shop vacs all night.
I’d say have a good day, but I just don’t think that is in the forecast today.

Hi Tammy —— now that you mention it Tremont might be doing those silly parent / teacher things too —— I never go so I forget when they are.
I am so disgusted with what passes for education I don’t dare go —— I might get arrested.
Ben is in the midst of some foolish statistical analysis class where they teach how to crunch the numbers which is useless in everything but the most narrow applications. That’s the sort of thing that the folks who invest in Wall St. use to lie to us that the economy is just fine.
Our sump pump is still keeping up. I don’t envy you having to clean up all this water and it doesn’t look to stop raining any day soon
