First, I want to say a big “THANK YOU!” to everyone who offered good thoughts and wishes for my birthday yesterday. It is good to know I have so many thoughtful friends and family members!

I called several places yesterday to see if I could find a way to properly dispose of the two window air conditioners we need to get rid of. It is no wonder people simply dump these things in a ditch somewhere. Since we all know that Freon is really bad for the environment, the land fill and other proper dump sites won’t take them.

So the only person I found was some guy named “Dale” I was referred to by our garbage collectors. Dale charges $20 each to pick them up and was very vague about what he does with them. I felt like I was talking to some guy operating in the “environmental underground” trying to set up a deal to dispose of hazardous materials.

I don’t need to pay somebody $20 to throw it in a ditch —— I have a ditch of my own. It would seem that our stupid environmental policies simply encourage people to dump these things since we don’t have a reasonable way to dispose of them properly.

CILCO referred me to some agency that recycles refrigerators and freezers. They won’t take an air conditioner unless they have a refrigerator or freezer to pick up 1^st. And they won’t even take the stupid things if I bring them in myself. They HAVE to pick them up. So if I can find an old refrigerator or freezer to give them they will take the air conditioners too —— but not otherwise. WTF?

So I guess I will be storing a couple old air conditioners until I can find somebody besides “Dale” to take them.
