We survived Day One of filling in the old pond. The excavator didn’t get here until after 9:30 yesterday morning and the fuel tank wasn’t full. The delivery guy said somebody “took” the excavator the night before when they weren’t supposed to and that is why it was late. And I guess that is also why we got cheated out of a quarter tank of diesel.

Tracey started the digging and later I took a turn. The old pond is about 1/2 filled in and with a few more hours of digging we should have the ground leveled out.

We cut the phone line TWICE while digging. I wasn’t surprised the 1st time because it ran right through the middle of the pond —— but I don’t know how I managed it the 2nd time. I think perhaps it was tangled in a tree root that I plowed out. Anyway we have that all connected back together but now we have to bury it so I can’t dig it back up again today. What a mutiny we would have around here without Internet!

Ben arrived home just before 10 last night. He will probably spend a lot of time in town at the Turkey Festival. I expect there will be a lot of his friends coming and going for the next few days.

Geez...didn’t you call “Julie”?!?! Stay away from those lines!

Ahhhh...the sounds of young ones in the house....so jealous! I will get to see at least 1 of mine Sun. when we celebrate my nephew’s 17th bday at my dad’s house. I’m not sure if my boy will be in town or not.

Good Morning Tammy,
We knew where the wire was because Tracey cut it on purpose years ago when she dug the pond. Of course she would decide to dig a pond right over the phone wire!

So the 1st time we cut it yesterday was on purpose because it was right at the bottom of the pond. We rewired it with extra wire and routed it off to one side and thought we had buried it deep enough. Evidently not. So now it is above ground until the very end and we just have to work around it.

We also have piles of rubber pond liner and landscaping bricks that we will have to sort through and dispose. We didn’t want to bury the pond liner so that that is why we scooped it out of the bottom —— snagging the phone wire that was just below it.
