A Sea World Indonesia employee holds a blue-spotted sting ray at the aquarium in Jakarta, Indonesia. Indonesia’s Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministery is preparing a ministerial decree to ban the hunting of sharks and rays in the country following the Conference of Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (COP CITES) last week. Indonesia is one of the top shark-catching nations. More than 640,000 tons are caught annually, nearly 80% of the total shark catch in the world, local news reported.
