We got the estimate back to do the repairs on our deck. Ouch! Almost $3,400. I think I will be doing this work myself. I went out yesterday to start taking some of the railing apart when I discovered we have some wasp nests out there. So instead of getting any real work done I spent time spraying wasp nests. I made several trips to douse them with poison and they were still hanging around by evening. I hope they all move on or die so I can get to work. I do NOT want to get stung by those little buggers.
I spent about an hour on the Internets pricing wood and researching deck cleaning and what kind of stain I want to use. I had originally planned to use the heavy deck paint I had seen advertised on TV but all the reviews say that will likely start peeling in a couple years and then is a mess to clean up and repaint. So I’m thinking a good oil based stain would probably do better and is some cheaper.

Mama on a soapbox: Ashley got a job at Old Navy in Eastland Mall and started about a month ago. Well, she was just “punished” and had to attend a 7 a.m - 8 a.m. meeting this morning because she has not got anyone to sign up for one their “cards”. If she doesn’t get 1 person a week, she has to go to these “punishment” meetings every Sun. morning. If that doesn’t get her to get 1 person a week, she will get a verbal reprimand and eventually fired. Now, is that not the stupidest rule ever! She asked how she’s supposed to do this when she is either working the dressing room or folding clothes and straightening. She is not at the cash register. Also, she didn’t even work Mon. - Fri. last week. I’m am so ticked at them right now! What is wrong with this world?! Ashley is an honest, loyal and hard working employee - guess that doesn’t matter. What kind of message are the companies sending out to the young work force. Heaven help our world in the future! And, now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Hi Tammy, I think if I were Ashley I would be looking elsewhere for employment. I’ve never heard of such stupidity. Did they pay her for the punishment hour? If not I would be talking with the State’s Attorney. They realize people fear for their jobs and will put up with this bullshit but one day somebody with an attorney in the family will get their evens. This is clearly extortion.
