I’ve started re-reading The Smiling Country by #ElmerKelton. It is one of three books in the series about Hewey Calloway, a cowboy in transition in the early 1900s. Hewey is having a hard time with the progress of the land being fenced in and the steady increase in cars and trucks that change life around him.

Kelton writes a lot of authentic western novels about West Texas where he was born and raised. I’ve read a lot his stories and I think The Time It Never Rained is probably the best. (I re-read that one last month)

I received my latest and final pair of slippers yesterday afternoon. They fit! Cause for celebration and I had warm feet this morning.
