We have #SamsungPay which allows you to use your phone any place that takes a magnetic strip or chip credit card. (Except for gas stations and automatic tellers) All the cashier has to do is activate the card reader just like they would for any credit card.

For the third time in a row I had trouble using my smart phone to pay the bill. Each time the teller has insisted, “Those things don’t work here.” and I end up having to make them do it so I can prove it will work. I never did get the one at #Schnucks to work because they kept trying to set the reader for Apple Pay. Another instance where managers and cashiers aren’t properly trained for new technology.

The grocery store was a madhouse yesterday. I wasn’t the only one who showed up shopping for the first time since Christmas!

I had another run in with a #Schnucks cashier about using #SamsungPay on my phone. I can understand when they don’t know how it is used but I get a little testy when they try to blame me. I KNOW it should work because it has in the past. I just have no idea what they are supposed to do at the register to allow it to work.

She threatened to get a manager after I refused to use “a real credit card” and so I insisted she do just that. The manager arrived, pushed a couple buttons and it worked flawlessly. Oh Well.

I was back at #Schnucks today. I forgot to get some stuff. This time my #SamsungPay worked flawlessly and I profusely thanked the cashier. She seemed perplexed until I explained yesterday’s trouble.

I wasn’t going to say anything but I decided if I am going to bitch about when it goes wrong I should give equal time and praise for when it goes right. And so it goes.

#BreakfastAlan
I went to breakfast with my brother Alan yesterday. We talked of this and that and other things. I had a great time as usual. When we went to pay our bills I tried to use my fancy new watch and it notified me I could not use #SamsungPay without updating the software.

How nice. Alan joked that several years ago you would have never expected somebody to say they couldn’t use their watch to pay the bill because it needed a software update.

It just goes to show you that no matter how much fancy technology you have you can’t really trust it. Good thing I had another way to pay the bill.

Tracey and I love our gadgets. When we found out we could use our smart phones to make purchases at stores and restaurants we were eager to try it out. Unfortunately our #DiscoverCard wouldn’t work. We have used that credit card for at least thirty years but got a Visa card just so we could use it on the phone and then on our smart watches when we got those.

I got an update from #SamsungPay yesterday and they announced we could now use the Discover Card. I loaded it up on the phone and the watch just to try it out. But I don’t think we will go back to using it so exclusively as we did. If they can’t keep up with technology they are going to lose business. Besides, they still have never fixed their web site so it works properly. Yes. I hold a grudge.

I had mentioned the other day that #DiscoverCard was finally working with Samsung Pay. I spoke too soon. Tracey just tried to add it to her phone and not only did it refuse her, I got an email that our account was locked because she used the wrong name. WTF?

I called and the nice young man couldn’t understand why it happened but did note that there was a difference in their record of her name compared to the record provided by #SamsungPay. He supposedly unlocked our account but couldn’t register Tracey’s phone to work.

Whatever. It makes no sense why three other cards were accepted but not Discover.

He said he would make out a “memo” on the event and I asked him to include the fact we ditched Discover after 30 years because of glitches like this and they may have just screwed up their last chance. We shouldn’t have to figure out why their system is broke.
